Innovation Forum 4 Plastics
On 19 April the Innovation Forum 4 Plastics took place in Brussles. During the session „Innovative solutions for circular technical/engineering plastics“, project coordinator Dr. Martin Schlummer shared compelling points, shedding light on the importance of increasing the circular use of durable materials like PVC flooring to support sustainability.
The key highlights were:
- Durable materials like PVC offer high longevity and therefore significant CO2 savings, aligning with environmental objectives
- Embracing circularity for materials like PVC flooring is crucial. By adopting circular practices, we not only extend material lifespan but also minimize waste and optimize resource efficiency
- Caution against overly restrictive regulations: While safety is paramount, excessively low thresholds for hazardous substances or rushed reductions can inadvertently hinder innovation and sustainability progress. Striking a balance is imperative to foster positive environmental impact while ensuring safety standards are met.
The Innovation Forum 4 Plastics is an event that aims to showcase the innovative solutions of EU funded projects to boost plastic recycling and circularity, and reduce plastic pollution. It brings these projects together with policy-makers, end-users, industry representatives, investors, start-ups and SMEs.
