Circular Flooring Final Conference in Brussels
Brussels – On 4 July 2024, our final conference was held at the Representation of the Free State of Bavaria to the EU in Brussels to present the key findings and results of the five-year research initiative. The final conference, entitled “New products from waste PVC flooring and safe end-of-life treatment of plasticizers,” highlighted the project’s contribution to the EU’s circular economy objectives. Participants had the opportunity to hear a keynote speech from a representative of the European Commission, watch the brand new project video and listen to a presentation of key findings from the project coordinator. A panel discussion with scientists, policy makers and stakeholders explored the topic “Turning challenges into chances: Pathways towards a sustainable circular economy of durable plastics”.The panel discussion highlighted the need for a holistic approach to advance the circular economy of durable plastics. It is clear that overcoming logistical, regulatory and economic challenges requires coordinated efforts across the value chain, from policy frameworks and technological innovations to industry practices. By leveraging public funding in innovative circularity projects, attracting private capital and fostering cross-border cooperation regarding waste transportation, the way is paved for a more sustainable and circular plastics economy.
